This is based on a true story of the first person to undergo sex reassignment surgery. Set in the 1920's the Wegner's were living a wonderful life until one day their life changed when Gerda (a painter) asks her husband to stand in for a female model. He willingly agrees and this unmasks Einar's battle with his gender identity. Einar begins to transform into a woman whose name is Lili Elbe. Because of this decision to completely get rid of Einar, they move to Paris so that they won't have to hid from their friends. While in Paris Lili is struggling with being a man and decides to seek help from psychologists. They eventually found a doctor who tell Lili he has had many patients like her and says that he can perform a sex reassignment surgery. The only problem is that it is very dangerous because it has never been done before and she would be the first. What I love most is that Gerda never once left Einar's side, she was so supportive. You can find this movie on Netflix.
